I’ve just returned to work after taking a week break with the family. What a great adventure and amazing place to visit in New Caledonia. Quite diverse with the French and Melanesian local cultures together and certainly interesting to try a culture where the first language is not English. What did work well for us was technology. Big ups to Google, specifically Google Offline Maps, Google Trips and Google Translate. A good toolkit for any overseas trip. Beyond that, the local free WiFi at one of the restaurants was a big help although I eventually signed up to a paid WiFi provider to enable me to book a trip to snorkel with turtles. Something that I highly recommend although make sure you sunblock the back of your legs!! Didn’t expect to get sun burnt there but it happened!!
What I can also say is that taking a week off and not thinking about work does absolute wonders for the mind and body.
